First thing to do before downloading an image is to make sure it isnt copy written, there is no need in doing work editing it to then find out after all the hard work and effort you put into the work that you cant use it. With master copys there like a back up in a way, in case your computer gets a virus and has to be whiped then somewhere else is a copy wich you can then transfer back onto your computer, a area in which you can keep a copy is online software such as "DropBox" or hardwear such as a memory stick. business could also use image assest management which is situations like advertising an advert.
When a image is stored on a computer the only main threat of loosing you work is, accidently deleting it which would only make it go to your trash, you could simply get it back, somone else deleting your work which again you could go through the same process as before, but.. if a virus attacks the hardware then you may loose everything, to prevent this from happening you can buy anti-virus software such as "NORTON ANTI-VIRUS"
If the images are printed and are being handled then to protect them images simple procedures such as gloves should be used. Ensuring that image integrity is retained is simple you could just simply use copys instead of using the origional, also not using any teqniques that could ruin the image itself. When dealing with colour management certain procedures have to be done correctly. Constantly checking the images through the whole process would be the most suitable in my opinion, you can do this by using a computer and its display monitor to check that colour management is being carried out correctly.

Unit 35 - Undertake Technical Adjustment of Images
The RGB color model is an additive color model in which red, green, and blue light is added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colours. The name of the model comes from the initials of the three additive primary colour, red, green, and blue (RGB)
The importance of technical compatibility in images is important because the quality of the image is depending on the setting in which you select. What i mean by this is if you are wanting to print out a image you would set it to (CMYK) this is because the printer creates colour by laying colours on top of each other and give high detailed and best quality print outs. If you are wanting to upload a image to the web you set the setting of the image to (RGB) this is because (RGB) are primary colours and when you mix the primary colours with one another they create secondary colours, so when you create a image online and a particular colour is visible on the screen it is actually made from (RGB) colours being mixed.
When you print at home, you can actually tell your printer to use any number of pixels per inch. A printer needs to use more pixles per inch to produce a high quality image than your monitor does. If you print a photo at 100 dpi, it is not going to look like a professional print. You will be able to see grain and fuzziness, the actual pixels that make up the digital photograph.
Technical metadata correspond to internal metadata, business metadata to external metadata. Kimball adds a third category named Process metadata. On the other hand, NISO distinguishes between three types of metadata: descriptive, structural and administrative. Descriptive metadata is the information used to search and locate an object such as title, author, subjects, keywords, publisher; structural metadata gives a description of how the components of the object are organised; andadministrative metadata refers to the technical information including file type. Two sub-types of administrative metadata are rights management metadata and preservation metadata.
There are hundreds of image file types. An example of image file formats are, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, BMP and many more. Formats are most often used to display images on the Internet.
For image editing, MAC's are well known for there top quality designer advantages, they are a quick, high performing, piece of hardware that can run high quality software such as photoshop which is a excellent software for designers, it allows you to make and edit images at such a high standard. Hence why it is well known around the world and used by the top designers.
Images can me imported to a PC by using a USB cable. After doing so the image should be imported onto the memory of the PC, and allows you to therefore edit the photo using whatever software you feel necessary.
Editing images can be a bit of a hassle. The reason for this is because you have to take into consideration the specifications such as DPI resolution, print dimensions, pixel dimensions and file format. A good thing to do for the client is to produce preliminary proofs for the client as it shows them how well the work is progressing. They could add is what they would prefer and also take out what they don't like, improving the design.
Copy Right = A law which was set by the government. The law states that if a designer copyrights his design then no one else may use it in anyway, but if someone does have access to it and decides to use it in there work, then the legal owner of that work has the right to money that is earned by the user of the copy written design.
Health and Safety Legislation in the workplace = computers and electrical items is an example of this. In my workplace wires are a potential hazard, as someone could trip and fall over hurting them selfs. with multiple wires lying around the place and tangle up that could also lead to a fire potentially, but if there was a fire my workplace has Fire door's which must be shut at all times to prevent a fire from spreading.

Feedback From Sessionz Wix Page
This here is when someone called Kyle Wink used my web page to ask which special guest was appearing in Newcastle's Tiger-Tiger.
Unit 27 – 2D Animation for Interactive Media Products
A 2D animation can be made very simply, yet look incredible depending on how much time and effort you put into your work. It can make a webpage look much more pofessional and catches the eye of the viewer who has entered the web page.
A good way of describing the key techniques of computer animation would be my wix page which i use on Facebook. On my wix page it has a home page giving descriptions of my online website it was created to gain followers and get the brand name well known within the area. However people needed to understand what this webpage was about so i included a "About Us" page installed on the wix page. When you left click on the text "About Us" an animation happens instead of opening another web page what it does is erase the text/images within the home page and the "About Us" header and text appears, this is a simple but affective animation making the wix page much more appealing.
Before starting a design which a company has asked you to design you need a specification/brief so you know what your working to achieve. A good example of this is age groups.. if you have been asked to create a website for young children then therefore bright colours Flash images and video's should be used. Young children don't want to read loads of text, they will just get bored and leave the website so it is very important to understand what you are aiming for and hope to achieve.
The purpose of Flash animation is to catch the visitor of the websites attention, if it be advertising or header whatever the Flash animation is being used for they all have the same purpose, to draw attention, bring more viewers to the web page & to increase revenue.
Again i will use age to describe the expectations and requirements of target users for the product. The younger generation as we all know like colour they enjoy interacting with things & a quick high quality finnish. However the older generation look for a professional looking webpage that is quick easy to use. If a web page doesn't meet the criteria which i have said for a older more mature person they will most likely leave the web page and look somewhere else, these days its all about speed if the viewer knows what they are looking for they want a quick and easy service.
There are many ways in which a Flash animation can be used. A flash header may appear when you enter the website, a greeting page may appear and say "click here to enter the site", many advertisement's may be been shown on the website and a flash image may be being used to cycle through.
As i said before it is important to create animations that meet the specification/brief that was set for the target audience that was set before the design begun for the 1 reason that if it doesn't meet the criteria asked for the the web page will be a fail.A flash header could be used in a product, what it would do is appear when someone visit's the site catching there attention, again it could be a flash image showing various advertisements to.
I would save the flash file either in swf, and then it would depend on what type of software program i used, for example if i was going to be using adobe flashcs5.5 i would save the file as a fla/swf cs5.5.

Unit 24 - Manage and Market Own Freelance Services
Identify relevant business contacts within the industry
A great way to identify relevant business contacts is firstly online, as this method allows you to filter your search and find companies/ clients that are more relevant in your industry. There are also many events for industry professionals to attend such as director and producer functions.
Maintain established business contacts within the industry
A good way to maintain your business contacts in the industry would be to keep in contact, whether that being through social networks, email, phone, or meeting. Another way to maintain your business contacts would be to attend events set up by certain companies, as this is a positive way to catch up with contacts and also meet some new ones.
Participate within relevant networks and expert organisations to support own freelance activity
This basically means if you are trying to promote yourself within the relevant networks it would be a good idea to sign up to mailing lists that will inform you of industry events taking place. It would then be wise to bring your business cards with you, and exchange as you wish with like-minded people.
Use appropriate strategies and tools to enhance own professional reputation and promote own services
Recently I have thought about this, especially as I approach my final few days on the apprenticeship. One method that I’ve seen used a lot is having your work on a website, that showcases your talent and displays your CV.
Implement systems to enable early identification of work opportunities
The best way to find out about upcoming job opportunities would be joining creative media websites and signing up to mailing lists, such as shooting people, mandy, production base and so on. Also LinkedIn now offer a tool that prompts you regarding new jobs.
Identify potential agents or other representatives
As mentioned above, potential representatives that market your services could be media websites, shooting people and production base. Some other ways to identify agents/ reps could be by posting an advert into a media newsletter or magazine, such as Broadcast, Televisual, The Knowledge, etc.
Identify own development needs drawing on a range of relevant sources
Ways to identify my own development could be done by setting myself targets that I hope to achieve by a certain date, and also a breakdown on how I’m going to achieve them.
Seek constructive feedback from relevant parties about own performance
A simple, yet effective way to gain constructive feedback from relevant parties on your performance could be having a monthly meeting with your employer on your progress. Your employer should be able to give you your weaknesses and your strengths and an action plan with something to achieve.
Work flexibly, adapting to the requirements of others as appropriate whilst maintaining own personal work ethic and reputation
I can definitely say I understand and respect the fact sometimes work flexibility and requirements change, I have been in this situation when I worked for a distribution company and myself and two other colleagues worked late into the night to make sure that everything was prepared.
Make appropriate business decisions
In my workplace i work on computers, there can be distractions such as Facebook/Twitter, if i have a deadline i should make sure to not use these social networking site's and get my job done. Also if i was creating a logo design, i would have to make it so it was to a high standard otherwise my work would make the company look bad.
Implement effective systems of managing budgets, finance and documentation
An effective way to maintain your budgets, finance and documentation could be by keeping a fileofax with separate areas for each different document area, such as legal, bills, bank statements, invoices, pay cheques etc. Another way to manage your budget and finance would be by conducting a breakdown of bills, therefore giving you an idea of income and outgoings.
Implement effective support services
Use services such as connections and government websites to find effective support
Plan ahead to maintain a viable work and cash flow
This could consist of having a rota of work lined up, including a summary of what your being paid for each job. From here you can then sit down and organise whether you can afford those new clothes or not. Rule of thumb it’s best to find your outgoings for bills, tax, food, travel and I’m sure much more and from that you can budget sensibility throughout the month.
Negotiate contracts that meet legal and industry requirements
I guess the most effective way of negotiating your contact in line with legal and industry requirements would firstly be learning your legal rights such as holiday entitlement, minimum wage, unfair dismissal and so on. Negotiating your contract to industry requirements could be harder to find, but I’m sure you can find a friend in the HR department of a creative media industry.
Agree realistic fee rates, schedule and other expenses
Always a delicate subject I find, as it can be very hard to negotiate fees and expenses in which both sides win. An example of this could be being presented with a fee that your unhappy with but if you put a counter offer on the table, for all you know the job could be pulled from your feet or you could start off on an awkward note with your new employer.
Establish clear performance outcomes
A great way to establish clear performance outcomes would be to talk to your employer, as at the end of the day they want to get the most out of you and stretch you for whatever money they are paying you. If you ask your employer to give you say a monthly or quarterly meeting discussing your performance you can then note down what may need improving.
Ensure that contracts include all relevant details, checking that these match agreements
Personally I would check that my contract meets legal and industry requirements by either checking it against a draft contract or by checking it against a previous job contract, this way you can ensure you are not being mugged off. Also if you find yourself inadequate of doing this, I would speak to an industry HR department who I’m sure can offer some guidance.
Communicate the obligations of all parties clearly
BASICALLY, this means don't mumble.
Store a written copy of the final signed contract securely I would personally put my final signed contract securely in my purchased fileofax – that keeps all my other documentation safe and secure. It may also be a wise idea to keep a copy of your contract on a over the air location such as Dropbox or SugarSync or even an external hard drive.

Unit 25 – Produce Copy for Interactive Media
Within this unit i am going to be talking about text editing. A text editor is a program used for editing text files. They are usually provided within the software packages themself or even with the operating system itself. When I am talking about plain text files you will most likely think I mean word documents. Well i don't. There is a difference between plain text files and word documents. A plain text file is something which is represented and edited by showing all of the characters as they are present in the file. Plain text files are usually used for programming and configuration rather than a documentation for example.. detailed instructions and user guides. Documents made within a word processor are usually control characters. By this i mean it enable's and functions different ways a font is shown such as bold, italic, underline, tables etc. These and other common formatting symbols where they were once only used with desktop publishing software but now they are used in the simplest word processor. Word processing software usually edit's a plain text file and then save's it back to the old plain text file but you must tell word that this is what you want to happen or else it would just save as a document. It is important that you specify the type of saved file you want, just like you would with HTML and configuration. Before text editors existed computer text was punched into punched cards with keypunch machines. The first ever text editors were known as (line editors). They didn't provide a window or screen display. To minimise typing they often had very short commands. Amongst that was a command to print selected sections of the file on the typewriter. When computer's with video screens became available screen editor's became more commonly used. There are different types of text editors, some are quite small and simple where as others are bigger and much more complex to use. Unit operating systems use the VI editor and Microsoft systems use the notepad which I'm sure which i am sure you use reasonably often, its very easy to use.
Now i will talk about proof reading. It is very important to proof read your work. Yes your computer may have spell checker but it doesn't always correct the mistakes you will have made. The computer may be in a different language style so when your typing and its on U.S on word then it would replace colour with color. Even though they mean the same thing it won't look good if you're doing work for an english company and give them work that you have produced with American grammer used. So when you proof read you must check you work carefully. You must do this to make sure that it makes sense and that whoever you are writing to will be able to understand the document. If you hand work to a client and it doesn't make sense or the punctuation is really bad then they will be thinking why have I hired such a rookie when he isn't a professional. They would then write reviews about you which wouldn't look good and people therefore wouldn't hire you.

Unit 07 - Creative Industry Awareness & Unit 9
Identifying the industries within the Creative Media sector:
Advertising
Advertising is a form of communication used to persuade an audience (viewers, readers or listeners) to take some action with respect to products, ideas or services
Art and antique markets
Is a place or shop where art and/or antiques can be sold
Publishing
Publishing is the process of production and dissemination of literature or information - the activity of making information available to the general public. In some case, authors may be their own publishers, meaning: originators and developers of content also provide media to deliver and display the content for the same.
Film, Video & Photography
A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a series of still or moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. Video is the technology or electronically capturing, recording, processing, storing, transmitting and reconstructing a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion. Photography is the art, science and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of a chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film.
Crafts
A craft is a branch of profession that requires some particular kind of skilled work. Examples of craft industries would be pottery, metal work, weaving, wood turning and other forms of wood working, glass blowing and glass art.
Design
Design refers to a plan or convention for the construction of an object or a system. You can also design by directly constructing an object (as in pottery, engineering, management, cowboy coding and graphic design) The person designing is called a designer for example such as a fashion designer, concept designer or web designer. Designing often necessitates considering the aesthetic, functional, economic and sociopolitical dimensions of both the design object and design process. It may involve considerable research, thought, modelling, interactive adjustment, and re-design. Meanwhile, diverse kinds of objectives may be designed, including clothing, graphical user interfaces, skyscrapers corporate identities, business processes and even methods of design.
Radio
Broadcasting by radio takes several forms. These include AM & FM stations. There are several subtypes, namely commercial broadcasting. Non-commercial educational (NCE) public broadcasting and no-profit varieties as well as community radio. Student-run campus radio stations and hospital radio stations can be found throughout the world.
Designer Fashion
Fashion design is the art of the application of design and aesthetics or catural beauty to clothing accessories.
TV
TV is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome (black and white) or coloured, with accompqnying sound "television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming, television transmission.
Software, computer games and electronic publishing
Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instructions for telling a computer what to do. A PC game, also known as a computer game, is a video game played on a personal computer, rarther than a video game console or arcade machine. electronic publishing or ePublishing includes the digital publishing of e-books and electronic articles, and the development of digital libraries and catalogues.
Architecture
Architecture is both the process and product of planning, designing and construction. Architectural works, in the material form of buildings, are often perceived as cultural and political symbols and as works of art.
Music and performing arts
Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony). rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo meter, and articulation). dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The performing arts are those forms art which differ from the plastic arts insofar as the former uses the artists own body, face and presence as a medium, and the latter uses materials such as clay, metal or paint which can be moulded or transformed to create some physical are object.

Unit 06 – Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risks to Health & Safety
Working in a studio environment is much like working in an office. A lot of the equipment is the same therefore so are a lot of the hazards and risks associated with them. There are also added pieces of equipment which isn’t often found in an office so extra precaution should be taken.
- Regular Computer use – The main tool I can use to help me when completing my day to day work as a web design apprentice is the use of a computer. This means sitting in front of a screen for long periods of time. This is itself is a hazard because there is a risk of developing repetitive strain injury.
- Electricity – Another big hazard in the studio environment is electricity. If not careful electricity is very dangerous. There are lots of computers and equipment in the office that use electricity meaning that there is a greater risk but also wires and cables could be lying around the studio.
- Fire – There is a risk of fire anywhere with the creative industry not being an exception. Computers overheating, electricity plugs sparking and other hazards all contribute to the risk of fire.
- Manual Handling – When lifting any object big or small there is a risk associated with it. There are correct ways to pick up objects and move them around. If ignored then permanent damage could be done to parts of the body including your back.
- Slips, trips and falls – This is one of the most common hazards in any work place with most injuries being a result of a slip, trip or fall. Wires lying on the floor, carpets, office animals and many more factors about the studio environment make it possible to slip or trip.
- Stress – Stress is a big factor in the creative industry with varying workloads and tight deadlines. This can give your mood a big effect not only in the office but when you leave work. Being careful when driving while stressed is crucial because of the risk of an accident.
- Substances hazardous to health – Working within a studio environment there are substances which are not found in your average office. These are things such as glue, spray paint and solvents.
- Environmental comfort factors – This is the environment in which I am working in. In my case the studio is light and spacious where everyone is able to see out of a window so the studio doesn’t seem small. The door is often also open helping to create a nice environment to work in. The environment in which you work in can also affect the mood you’re in affecting how you react to other people and it greater circumstances affecting your health contributing to stress and/or depression if the environment isn’t very nice.
- Solo working – Working on your own can be a problem also if your stressed, working to tight deadlines and have no one for moral support or help with the work load. It could also be quite lonely when there isn’t a possibility to bounce ideas off other people. This could also affect the work you produce.
- Smoking – Smoking we know harms yourself and others around you so it is the same at the work place. Smoking will harm you and others near you.
- Hygiene and welfare – A clean studio will help contribute to the welfare of employees and the overall moral in the workplace. An untidy workplace adds an unnecessary risk to the studio.
- Visits to sites – There is certain content on the internet which will upset and/or disturb a lot of people. Taking care when browsing the internet and being careful of what sites you are directed to eliminates this risk.
- Visits to clients – When going to a meeting with a client there are many risks including the travelling to their workplace, the office and the client themselves. Verbal and/or physical abuse – Finally abuse in the work place is also a risk. If you don’t get on with a colleague or someone is aggressive towards you that can cause tension and risks are associated with it.
Safe working practises
At the workstation
- Take regular breaks from your workstation – at least every 30 minutes.
- Vary tasks so you are not keying for extended periods of time.
- Change your posture as frequently as practical.
- Avoid eye strain when using the computer: focus on an object in the distance at least 6 metres every 10-15 minutes.
- Take your lunch break away from your desk, preferably going for a walk outside for 15-20 minutes.
- Make sure your chair is adjusted to support your lower back – use safe sitting posture.
- Make sure that your chair is in good working order – do not use a chair that needs maintenance.
- Learn to touch type (less repetitive movement for your neck).
- Switch the computer mouse to the other hand regularly.
- Place frequently used items near you.
In general
- Keep hydrated and drink plenty of water
- Reduce clutter in your work and storage areas – you’ll work in a more organised way, feel less pressured and avoid trips and falls.
- Switch tasks if possible to manage repetitive tasks. This will keep your body and your mind fresh.
- Change your method of doing repetitive by using a different body part or different muscles, such as switching hands.
Manual handling
- Eliminate manual handling tasks from your work processes as much as possible.
- Use suitable and well-maintained equipment as much as possible.
