Unit 01 – Awareness of Employment within the Creative Media Sector
An Employee
- Your Employer provides the work, any tools and equipment for it, and they decide how and when you do the work.
- You will usually have a written contract
- You are expected to do the work yourself that you are employed to do, and may be moved to a different tasks
- You are paid a regular amount according to the hours you work
- You determine how and when you do the work within reason
- You can hire helpers or replacements for you if you are unable to do the work
- You pay your own tax and national insurance contributions on a self-employed basis
I am a Full Time Apprentice i am giving the hours i am to work, i am provided the equipment for it, i work on projects i am set and am only paid for the hours i work. A couple of benafits of being a Self employed worker is you can work your own hours when suitable, but as a full time worker you have one job to focus on, on the other hand a self employed has to work on many subjects which can be frustrating, and very draining if you don't know how to run a business but could bring you a large return in salary but takes a lot of work. Being a employee you have a contract which entitles you to stay within that organisation for the time that was set on the other hand with self employed you could be fine one day and overnight something goes wrong and then you are unemployed just like that because you can't keep the business running meaning being a employee is more secure than being self employed. An employment contract, or ‘contract of employment’, is an agreement between an employer and an employee which sets out their employment rights, responsibilities and duties. The employment contract is made as soon as you accept a job offer. If you start work it will show that you accepted the job on the terms offered by the employer, even if you don’t know what they are. Having a written contract could cut out disputes with your employer at a later date, and will help you understand your employment rights. You and your employer are bound to the employment contract until it ends (usually by giving notice) or until the terms are changed (usually in an agreement between you and your employer). Tax and National Insurance as an employ is taking out of your wages automatically but being self employed you have to deal with this on your own accord.
